Yoga Therapy in Exeter, NH for Pain, Stress & Nervous System Support
A structured, small-group approach to movement designed for people who are done guessing with their body and want a more precise, sustainable way forward.
At Sanctuary Yoga & Wellness in Exeter, NH, we work with individuals navigating pain, injury, chronic tension, and nervous system overwhelm, often after physical therapy, in conjunction with mental health therapy, or in the space between.
This is not a typical yoga class.
This is yoga therapy: a way of working with your body that helps you understand how you’re using effort, where you’re holding tension, and what begins to change when that shifts.
For People Who are Done Pushing Through
You’re not new to this. You’ve tried things, you’re aware, and you know your body well enough to recognize when something isn’t right.
And at the same time, you may still find yourself pushing through discomfort, overriding what your body is signaling, leaving classes feeling worse instead of better, or carrying a level of tension that never fully turns off. This isn’t something that requires more grind. It’s a pattern that needs to be interrupted.
Nervous System Support Through Movement
You’ll learn how to:
recognize how you’re effort and tension patterns are impacting you physically and mentally
adjust in real time instead of pushing through
build strength and stability without overriding your system
move in a way that supports healing, not just performance
This is where things start to make more sense and actually shift.
This work integrates therapeutic yoga, somatic movement, breath, and awareness to support the nervous system and create real, usable change.
Why this isn’t a typical yoga class:
No “all levels” ambiguity
No performance based instruction
No pushing past your current capacity
Clear, appropriate progressions
Small group setting with attention to detail
Experienced teachers with 20+ years of teaching
This is not about doing more.
It’s about doing what’s appropriate and understanding why.
There are two ways to begin, depending on the level of support you’re looking for.
How to Work With Us
Unlimited access to classes at Sanctuary, led by experienced teachers who understand how to work with the body in a thoughtful, appropriate way.
This includes classes with me, along with Aimee and Suzanne, both long-time teachers with 20+ years of experience and former studio owners with experience guiding students across a wide range of abilities and needs. Each brings depth, steadiness, and a non-performative approach that aligns with how we work at Sanctuary.
This option is ideal if you’re looking to:
build consistency
stay connected to your body
continue progressing in a supported environment
Membership: Ongoing Support Through Consistent Practice
Therapeutic Membership: Deeper, More Individualized Support
Unlimited classes plus one private Yoga Therapy session per month with Sharon.
This option allows us to work more directly with your specific patterns, how you’re holding tension, where you’re getting stuck, and what your body is actually asking for, so you can then apply that understanding within your class practice.
It creates a bridge between:
individualized care
and ongoing group support
This is often where things shift more clearly and more efficiently, because you’re not just participating, you’re working with something specific.
A Reliable Referral Option for Your Patients
If you’ve ever recommended yoga but hesitated because of the variability in classes, teachers, and environments, you’re not wrong.
Not all yoga is appropriate for individuals managing pain, recovering from injury, or navigating nervous system dysregulation.
Sanctuary offers small, structured classes, movement that adapts to the individual, a nervous system informed approach to pacing, and leadership grounded in both clinical experience and traditional practice.
Communication can also be part of the process. With appropriate consent, I’m able to collaborate with providers in a HIPAA compliant way so there is continuity, clarity, and shared understanding around what your patient is working through and how they’re progressing.
This allows your patients to continue their progress in an environment that supports the work you’ve already done.
Why Sanctuary Exists
Sharon Gordon, Owner and Founder of Sanctuary Yoga & Wellness, Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant, and Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT).
In my time working as a Physical Therapist Assistant in an outpatient orthopedic setting, I saw how often patients were encouraged to “try yoga” as part of their recovery.
The intention was right. The execution wasn’t always.
The differences between classes, teachers, and training can be significant. Not all yoga teachers are trained to work with injury, pain, or nervous system challenges. Many teacher trainings offer limited anatomy and little to no clinical context, and teaching experience can vary widely.
For someone navigating recovery, the wrong environment can set them back.
I also saw how much of the healing process isn’t just about strength or mobility. It’s about how people are using effort, how they’re holding tension, and how their nervous system is responding to stress both physically and mentally. That piece is often under addressed.
I’m a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), trained through the Himalayan Institute, with additional study in Ayurveda. My work integrates that training with my background in orthopedic care to create a more complete, grounded approach.
Sanctuary was created to offer a place where that gap is addressed. Where people can continue their healing in a way that is appropriate, informed, and actually supports the work they’ve already done.
